Carbon Diagnostics now available in FactSet Workstation! Learn the details.

Company Overview: Emmi is an impact-driven climate tech company. We believe a low carbon economy is possible, and that properly incentivising and mobilising capital is the fastest and most cost-effective way to reach Net Zero and beyond.

We have created machine learning models to calculate any company's emissions globally and advanced risk algorithms to show the financial impact of emissions. These offer unique insights for institutional investors, such as super funds, enabling them to assess emission risks across their investment portfolios.

We are looking for an impact-driven Data Engineer to help us scale up. You’ll play an important role in designing, building, and maintaining our robust data infrastructure that’s ready to scale, as well as being a positive influence on the work of those around you.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the acting Head of Engineering, you’ll be asked to:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Climate Scientists, Financial Analysts, Product Managers) to help develop and prioritise data requirements and translate them into scalable solutions.

  • Design, develop, and optimise data pipelines, ETL processes, and data workflows.

  • Analyse existing data workflows for bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and implement solutions to optimise data flow and processing.

  • Support, and implement data engineering best-practises within the data engineering team.

  • Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and error handling mechanisms.

  • Develop and maintain data models, ensuring efficient storage and retrieval.

  • Mentor other data engineers and contribute to their growth.

  • Explore opportunities for performance optimisation and automation.

Requirements:

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 2+ years in a data-science or data-related role.

  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks (e.g. DBT, Snowflake, Postgres, dask and celery).

  • Familiarity with machine learning pipelines and model deployment.

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Google, Azure) to manage large-scale data processing.

  • Experience with data warehousing, primarily SQL databases.

  • Passion for data engineering best practices and continuous learning.

Nice-to-Have:

  • 3+ years as an engineer for a software or tech company.

  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools like docker, terraform, and ECS, and orchestration tools like Airflow.

  • Exposure to data governance, security, and compliance practices.

  • Experience in a small-scale, fast-paced, fast growth startup will be beneficial.

The right candidate will be:

  • A natural amplifier, who works well in a team, and strives to create team-wide impact.

  • An excellent problem-solver, with skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.

  • Happy to be flexible, with a willingness to lean in wherever needed

  • Self-motivated, proactive and demonstrate exceptional drive

  • A strong communicator, with the ability to work collaboratively in an innovative team setting or remotely

  • Passionate about climate change

  • Excited about being part of the solution, and ready for the challenge

  • Ready to have fun while saving the planet!
